delta 105: army camp experience

The DELTA105 - Army Camp Experience project is an experiential design initiative that recreates the life of a Jawan for the public. Conceptualized as part of an undergraduate graduation project at Lopez Design, Delhi, with a focus on research and concept development. The aim was to provide civilians with a first-hand experience of the Army lifestyle—including their training, routines, and values—in a fun, interactive, and educational environment. The project emphasizes storytelling through spatial design, using authentic Army elements to create an immersive and memorable adventure camp.

A day in the life of a Jawan

The primary goal of the DELTA105 project is to design an adventure camp experience that immerses civilians in the values and lifestyle of Army personnel. By showcasing the Army's rigorous training, discipline, and ethos, the project aims to create a deeper appreciation for the armed forces. Through an interactive and educational environment, it seeks to break down barriers between the Army and civil society, offering visitors a meaningful and memorable glimpse into the life of a Jawan.

Concept & Development Process

The concept for the Army camp experience emerged from extensive research and field visits to various Army and NSG camps in and around Delhi. This research provided valuable insights into the everyday life of Army personnel, which were translated into spatial narratives and interactive installations.

The project was approached through a structured design process, beginning with primary and secondary research, site visits, and workshops with stakeholders. Insights from these stages informed the development of the brand identity, user journey, and spatial layout. The camp was designed to feature authentic Army artifacts and experiences, emphasizing real-time engagement and storytelling.

The 37-acre site was divided into three zones:

  • Zone 1: Army Experience Zone (focusing on interactive and educational exhibits)

  • Zone 2: Resort (camping and overnight stay)

  • Zone 3: Corporate Training (specialized programs for corporate teams)

The project prioritized Zone 1, which focused on delivering the core Army experience. The design process involved creating detailed spatial plans, conceptual sketches, and structural drawings to visualize and execute the experience. The final design aimed to capture the essence of Army life while maintaining an accessible and engaging environment for visitors.

Scope of Work & Deliverables

The scope of work encompassed comprehensive research, concept development, and spatial planning. Key responsibilities included:

  • Conducting primary and secondary research to understand the Army lifestyle and target audience

  • Developing a cohesive visual language for the camp

  • Designing the visitor journey and creating immersive narratives

  • Detailing spatial layouts and activity zones for the Army experience

  • Creating a scalable system design to facilitate replication in other regions

Deliverables included:

  • Visual representations of the final narrative and visitor experience

  • Detailed spatial plans and layouts

  • Concept sketches and structural drawings

The DELTA105 - Army Camp Experience successfully combined strategic planning, immersive storytelling, and spatial design to offer a unique and educational perspective on Army life. The project's phased approach allows for future expansion into additional zones, providing long-term adaptability and growth.
